The manuscript gallery remains sealed to visitors from the start of the annual conservation programme in January until the dehumidification equipment is recalibrated and signed off in March. During that period the conservators, working behind temporary screens, replace the archival mounts and document each item's condition. The adjoining print room, by contrast, stays open throughout the winter.
Statement: Visitors can enter the manuscript gallery in February.
